Royally Painted

January 7, 2010

A modern painting of a black canvas that somehow represents ‘all of humanity’ doesn’t do anything for me..I just don’t get it. But, I love a good old classically painted portrait like the old masters. True to form, I love the new royal commissioning of Princes William and Harry. Very traditional in style, setting (the Queen Mother’s House) and dress—but the pose is casual and real. Perhaps it is the hand on the hip and the little smirks? Do you reckon one of them is just about to smack the other across the face with their fancy white gloves? That’s what I like to think…they’re just keepin’ it real.

You can see the painting up close and personal at National Portrait Gallery, Contemporary Galleries find out more about the painting here.
