Around Town…Richmond Park
On New Years day we shunned the shops and tv and went for a beautifully crisp walk through Richmond Park…one of my favorite areas for an ‘afternoon out’. I’m never quite sure if I love it because it’s such an unexpected surprise in my favorite city…or if in fact it just proves that I don’t really belong here at all since one of my favorite spots in the city, is the woods. It’s just a short tube trip (or bike ride) down the river and is an amazing 2500 acres and is full of deer (well 65o or so of them as the signs say). They are just roaming around free and because they are used to people you can get eerily close to them without fences/restraints/protection (depending on which way you look at it)! We took Olive and let her run her to her little hearts capacity, taking a few minutes to snap pictures on the way. Such a challenge with the lighting conditions, which I struggling with, but it’s all a good learning process!
The other location in these shots, that looks a little less like a dead forest, is Richmond Hill. Literally a hill located at the opening to the Park it truly isone of my top five spots of London ( a list still unwritten but possibly should be in the works). I think it’s partly because it feels like a Parisian boulevard since its lined with light gravel and partly because there are amazing views down the winding Thames river. And also because it’s usually deserted…eek not so much that day as you can see from the photos, but thankfully it was full of polite people full of new years cheer. What a pleasant change!
